Papa’s Oaks

The story of the papal oaks dates back to 2004 when seeds of the oldest oak Polish oak, "Chrobry” were taken to Vatican. Having been blessed by the Pope John Paul II, the seeds returned to Poland and received the certificate of origin. The nursery farm in Nędza, near Rudy, started breeding the trees. Chrobry’s 514 "children" marked with appropriate certificates with the serial number were distributed among schools, seminaries and shrines throughout the country. All oak seedlings are called “papal”, and each time the planting ceremony is a special occasion with the participation of the clergy and local authorities.

The papal oaks are also grown at the Cistercian monastery and palace complex park.
