Dr. Roger's Infirmary

Among the monuments, which Rudy can boast , one should not fail to mention the Infirmary of St. Charles, founded in 1858. by Dr. Julius Roger, Counselor of the Royal Sanitary and medical advisor of Duke Victor I. This small hotel, built in 1858. in the style of historicism with English neo-gothic elements, was founded by the Dukes Amelia and Victor. It was named in memory of the deceased Duke's father.

Dr. Roger was an exceptional figure. Apart from being a dedicated doctor and a social activist involved in helping the poorest, he initiated a public healthcare system. His first establishment, founded with this in mind, was St. Charles’ Infirmary. All palace staff were treated free of charge, and the others for a small fee. The costs of maintaining the hospital were on the Dukes. Between 1861 and 1972 the nursery service was performed by the nuns of St Francis’Order.

Nowadays the historical building houses the Centre for Education at the Silesia Province Landscape Parks Complex
.
